Acceptable Use Policy

This Acceptable Use Policy ("AUP") is part of, and incorporated into, our Terms of Service. It applies to everyone who uses Seshat. We may update it as described in the Terms; capitalized terms have the meaning given there. If you're not sure whether a use is allowed, ask us first at [email protected].

1. Only connect mailboxes you're authorized to

You may connect and archive a mailbox only if you own it or are expressly authorized to access, copy, and delete its contents. You are responsible for having that authority, and for complying with your own organization's policies and your email provider's terms. Do not connect a mailbox belonging to someone else without their authorization.

2. Don't use Seshat for unlawful or harmful content

You may not use Seshat to store, transmit, or process content that:

• is unlawful, or that facilitates illegal activity;
• infringes intellectual-property rights or misappropriates trade secrets;
• is child sexual abuse material (CSAM) or exploits or endangers minors;
• you have no lawful right to store or that violates another person's privacy or legal rights.

3. Don't attack, probe, or overload the service

You may not, and may not permit anyone to:

• access data, accounts, or systems you aren't authorized to reach, or bypass account isolation or access controls;
• probe, scan, penetration-test, or attempt to breach the service without our prior written permission;
• disrupt, degrade, or overload the service or its infrastructure (including denial-of-service attacks);
• circumvent usage, storage, or rate limits, or the metering of plans and mailboxes;
• reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to derive source code, except to the extent the law permits despite this restriction;
• introduce malware, or use the service to distribute malware, phishing, or spam;
• scrape or harvest the service except through features we provide, or use bots to access it in a way that harms the service or other users;
• resell, sublicense, or provide the service to third parties except as expressly allowed, or use it to build a competing product.

4. Regulated and prohibited data

Seshat is not designed for, and you should not use it to store, protected health information subject to HIPAA, cardholder data subject to PCI-DSS, or similar regulated data, unless we've separately agreed in writing. See the Terms for details.

5. Enforcement

If we believe you've violated this AUP, we may — with notice where practicable, or immediately where necessary to protect the service, other users, or third parties — remove or disable offending content, throttle or suspend the offending activity, or suspend or terminate the account, as described in the Terms. Where the law requires us to retain data (for example, under a legal hold), we will not delete it, but we may still suspend access. We may also report activity to law enforcement where appropriate; see our Law Enforcement Guidelines.
